Ibtissam is one of Toronto's leading performers of middle-eastern bellydance. She is an expert instructor as well as an accomplished soloist and choreographer and is a former senior member of Toronto’s esteemed dance troupe, Habeeba Hobeika’s Egyptian Dance Ensemble. With her exquisite technique, grace, charm and playfulness, her dancing has delighted audiences worldwide, from the Middle East to San Francisco.
Ibtissam has performed at hundreds of prestigious venues over the last decade, including Harbourfront Centre, Molson Amphitheatre, Kingswood Amphitheatre, the ROM, Taste of the Danforth Festival, Distillery Historic District, the Toronto Street Festival, Ashkenaz Festival, Carassauga, First Night, Fashion Cares Bollywood Cowboy, and many more too numerous to name. She has been featured as a regular dancer at many restaurants thoughout the greater Toronto area, such as Sahara, Lakasbah, Jerusalem, Tehran Nights, and many more. She is currently featured at 1001 Nights.
Prior to discovering her passion for belly dance, Ibtissam did gymnastics at a competitive level, and was involved with various forms of folk dance and ballet. She continues to broaden her artistic palette through studies and performances in other dance forms, specifically Flamenco and Gypsy. Drawing on her extensive musical background, Ibtissam's performances with live musicians are particularly spectacular and make her a world class performer.
As an instructor Ibtissam is fully trained and experienced with both adult education and with younger students. She has taught a variety of disciplines within the bellydance milieu and is currently offering a number of courses in the Toronto area.
